Really? It's all over the paper, in Italy and Brazil.
To sum up, Ricardo will most probably be not called for the Panamerican games, as his relationship with bernardo went from bad to... drastically bad!!! It's always been an up and down relationship, truth to be told: more than once Ricardo and bernardo would quarrel during a game, with Ricardo refusing to enter the field after the time out or Bernardo quite immediately replacing the setter.
This last controversy started around the 20th of July, when Ricardinho for unknown circumstances missed a few national team trainings, and bernardo consequently ended up excluding him from the team. So from now on, and until the situation calms down a little bit, Brazil will have Bernardo's son
, Bruno de Rezende as his main setter!! Some say (not the media, but the fans) that Bernardo is using Ricardo's reputation as a trouble maker to make room for his own son.
(I would like to note here it is not the first time... Two years ago he did the same, as his house was robbed and his two years old daughter had been threathed with a gun and locked up in a closet with her nanny. Also in that circumstance he skipped a few trainings and bernardinho, who had first had said to understand the situation, subsequently excluded him from playing a lot of the games they played).
ON the 16th of August, during the press conference for his biography "Levantando a vida" (Setting life), Ricardo said that he had been humiliated and joked by the Brasilian coach, who - he said- cut him from the national team in a 10 minutes meeting, in which he said he could not stand him anymore and that Ricardo crossed the final line. Ricardo added that he would go back to his national team only if Bernardo would pubblically apologise!
On the same day, bernardo called his own press conference, saying that he was not unjust in any way, and that his players are supporting his decision, rather than backing Ricardo up! He said: " I would apologise if I though I was wrong. But I behaved in line with my principles. If my decision was unjust, the players would object to it, wouldn't they? But they accepted it and I am not stupid. I just showed that for me certain principles are central!"
Then, it was the turn of The Brazilian national team to call their own press conference!
And they did. Twice. First one to say they effectively they would stand by their coach and not their (ex?) setter. (But it's also true that Bernardo is very powerful in Brasilian volleyball, and to say that he was wrong would mean to destroy the national team.) And a second one to ask for a meeting between the two. Giba and Gustavo are trying to make a meeting including all players (Ricardo included ) and Bernardo in order to resolve this problem. But, they have said that Ricardo must be the one to make the first step....
In my opinion, if Ricardo intends to come back to the team for the next Olympic games, he must shut up, and accept the solution his teammates are trying to achieve.
